town, Ragusa provincia, southeastern Sicily, Italy. It lies south of Ragusa city. It flourished under the Saracens and Normans but later declined and was heavily damaged by the earthquake of 1693. Subsequently it was rebuilt on a regular pattern, and its principal buildings are in the Baroque style. Agriculture and asphalt mining are important. Pop. (1993 est.) mun., 25,372.
