born 185/184 BC died 129 BC, Rome also called Scipio Aemelianus, Latin Scipio Africanus Minor, in full Publius Cornelius Scipio Aemilianus Africanus Numantinus Roman general famed both for his exploits during the Third Punic War (149146 BC) and for his subjugation of Spain (134133 BC). He received the name Africanus and a triumph in Rome after his destruction of Carthage (146 BC). He received the name Numantinus for his reduction of Spanish Numantia (133 BC).
