Meaning of SENNETERRE in English

town, Abitibi-Tmiscamingue region, southwestern Quebec province, Canada, on the Bell River south of Parent Lake. Founded as a trading post in 1914, it was called Nottaway, after the river of which the Bell is a tributary, and then renamed after an army officer in 1818. The town, 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Val-d'Or, is a junction on the transcontinental railway and a terminus of several provincial highways. It serves as an outfitting post on the edge of a vast wilderness for hunters, fishermen, forest workers, and Indians. Economic activities include a rail repair yard, sawmills, and a Hudson's Bay Company store. Pop. (1991) 3,563.
