city, north-central El Salvador. Sensuntepeque is located in hills south of the Lempa River valley at an elevation of 3,000 feet (900 m). In colonial times a major producer of indigo, Sensuntepeque has become an agricultural centre for grain, henequen (a fibre for twine), sugarcane, and coffee production in the surrounding area. The city's industrial activities include pottery making and liquor distilling. Pop. (1983 est.) 10,565.
