SERIA

town, Brunei, on Borneo's South China Sea coast, southwest of Bandar Seri Begawan, the national capital. It is the centre of an important oil-producing area, including offshore wells. A pipeline carries Seria's oil to Lutong, 23 miles (37 km) southwest in Sarawak, Malaysia, where some of it is refined. A tanker terminal at Seria accommodates ships carrying crude oil. Seria's oil has provided much of the revenue for Brunei's modern development. Brunei Shell Petroleum, the sultanate's largest corporation, is headquartered there. Pop. (1981) 23,511.
