Founded as San Luis in 1903 by Heraclio Uribe Uribe, the city was renamed for Seville, Spain, when it became a municipality in 1914. Gold, silver, and platinum mines are nearby, and agricultural products (beef, coffee, sugar, tobacco, cacao, bananas, cassava, and cereals) are marketed. Pop. (1985) 32,485.
