Situated between latitude 4 and 11 S and longitude 46 and 56 E, the major islands of the Seychelles are located about 1,000 miles (1,600 km) east of Kenya. The capital is Victoria. Area 175 square miles (453 square km). Pop. (1993 est.) 71,000.
