SILVIUS

a shepherd in Shakespeare's As You Like It. The rustic Silvius, whose dialogue is thick with sentimental poetry, is hopelessly in love with Phoebe. Though he eventually marries Phoebe, his love is unrequited. Silvius' pining over Phoebe is not unlike Orlando's gushing verse about Rosalind, and it is this sort of conventional wooing that Shakespeare's play satirizes.
