Lying just south of the Mor River, Siuri is an important road and agricultural-trade centre; its chief industries include rice milling, cotton and silk weaving, and furniture manufacture. The water-control-system barrage for the Mor River irrigation project is 20 miles (32 km) to the northwest. Constituted a municipality in 1876, Siuri has a college affiliated with the University of Burdwan. Pop. (1991 prelim.) 54,274.
