TAILLESS WHIP SCORPION

Meaning of TAILLESS WHIP SCORPION in English

any of the 60 species of the order Amblypygi (sometimes Phrynichida) of the arthropod class Arachnida. Body length is 8 to 45 millimetres (0.3 inch to 1.8 inches). The thorny-edged pedipalps (second pair of appendages) seize prey; the third appendages are long, whiplike feelers. Tailless whip scorpions are somewhat like whip scorpions but lack a telson, or tail. They occur in hot parts of North and South America, Asia, and Africa, where, by day, they hide under bark or stones. They often enter houses. An example is the 11-millimetre (0.4-inch) Tarantula marginemaculata of Florida.
