Meaning of TANSY in English

(Tanacetum vulgare, or Chrysanthemum vulgare), any of about 50 species of strong-smelling, poisonous herbs of the family Asteraceae, native to the North Temperate Zone. It has button-shaped yellow flower heads of disk flowers (no ray flowers) that are arranged in a flat-topped cluster; alternate, deeply cut leaves; and many stems. Tansy is sometimes cultivated in herb gardens and was formerly used in medicines and insecticides. Common tansy (T. vulgare) is sometimes known as golden-buttons.
