in full Triberg Im Schwarzwald, city, Baden-Wrttemberg Land (state), southwestern Germany. It lies along the Gutach River, northeast of Freiburg im Breisgau. Situated in a gorgelike valley among tall pinewoods near Triberg Falls, the highest (535 feet ) waterfall in Germany, Triberg is one of the oldest Black Forest resorts and is noted for its beneficial climate and its winter-sports facilities. The pilgrimage church of Maria in der Tanne (1702) has a fine Baroque altar. Metalworking, wood carving, and clockmaking are carried on in the city, and the local museum has a collection of Black Forest clocks. Pop. (1990 est.) 6,037.
