synthetic antihistamine introduced into medicine in 1946. It is administered orally in the form of tripelennamine citrate elixir or tripelennamine hydrochloride tablets. It is effective in controlling the symptoms of hay fever, acute skin reactions (such as hives), and contact dermatitis (such as from poison ivy). One side effect is drowsiness.
