city, northern Andhra Pradesh state, southern India. It lies along the Madras-Kazipet-Delhi railway. Warangal was the ancient capital of the Kakatiyas, an Andhra dynasty that flourished in the 12th century AD. The city has colleges of medicine, engineering, and arts and sciences. Pop. (1991 prelim.) 446,760.
