in full Weiden In Der Oberpfalz, city, Bavaria Land (state), southeastern Germany, on the Naab River at the entrance to the Oberpflzerwald, a section of the Bohemian Forest, west of the Czech frontier. Chartered in 1268, it is a characteristically medieval fortified town with gabled houses, a magnificent town hall (1539-47), and a 15th-century church with a Baroque tower. The city is associated with the composer Max Reger (1873-1916), whose house is preserved as a museum. The economic and communications centre of the Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz) district of the Land, Weiden has important glass, porcelain, and textile industries. Pop. (1991 est.) 42,234.
