Meaning of ANGLO-CATHOLICISM in English

a movement within the Church of England that emphasizes its connections with the Roman Catholic Church. Anglo-Catholic ideas were strongly expressed in the Oxford Movement of the 1830s. When the Church of England started to accept women as priests in the 1990s some Anglo-Catholic priests who were opposed to this joined the Roman Catholic Church.
