I . Princess Anne

(1950– )

a British princess, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip . She has a strong interest in horse riding, and represented Britain at the 1976 Olympic Games. She is also known for her work as the President of the Save the Children Fund . In 1973 she married Captain Mark Phillips, and had two children, Peter (1977– ) and Zara (1981– ). In 1992 she was divorced from her husband, and in the same year married Timothy Laurence (1955– ), a Royal Navy Officer. She was given the title of Princess Royal in 1987.

II . Queen Anne

(1665–1714)

the queen of Britain from 1702 to 1714. She was the daughter of King James II and the last of the House of Stuart . None of her 18 children lived beyond the age of 11, so when she died her cousin George from Hanover in Germany became King George I . Queen Anne was the last British ruler to be able to prevent Parliament from passing a law by using her power to veto (= reject) it.
