(1971– )
a US cyclist who recovered from cancer in 1996 and returned to the sport to have a very successful career, winning the Tour de France cycle race six times from 1999 to 2004.
II . Louis Armstrong
(1900–71)
a famous US jazz musician and leader of a band. His popular name was ‘Satchmo’, a short form of ‘Satchelmouth’, because of his large mouth. He played the trumpet and sang with a rough voice. He appeared in more than 50 films and performed around the world as a special representative of the US State Department . Many people think he was the greatest of all jazz musicians.
III . Neil Armstrong
(1930– )
the US astronaut who was the first man to walk on the moon, on 20 July 1969. As he stepped onto the surface of the moon, he said, ‘That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.’ He later taught at Cincinnati University in the 1970s.
