I . Margaret Beckett

(1943– )

a British Labour politician. She became a Member of Parliament in 1974 and held several important positions in the Labour Shadow Cabinet . In 1998 she became Leader of the House and in 2001 Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

II . Samuel Beckett

(1906–89)

an Irish writer of plays, novels and poetry. He is best known for his plays, including Waiting for Godot (1952) and Endgame (1957). He settled in France early in his career and much of his work was written in French. He was given the Nobel Prize for literature in 1969.
