a British spy who gave British secrets to the Soviet Union. He was a member of the group called the Cambridge spies , which also included Burgess (II), Maclean (II) and Philby . He was a successful art historian, working for the Queen, who made him a knight . When in 1979 it was discovered that he was a spy, his knighthood was taken away from him.
