Meaning of BOOGIE in English

( also boogie-woogie ) n [ U ]

a type of US blues music with a strong beat, played on the piano. It was especially popular in the 1930s. Musicians who helped to make it popular included ‘Cow Cow’ Davenport and ‘Pine Top’ Smith, who recorded Pine Top’s Boogie-Woogie in 1928. The ‘boogie-woogie’ was also an early name for the jitterbug dance.
