an English writer and university teacher who wrote mainly comic novels about university life. His best-known book, The History Man (1975), was made into a television series in 1981. He was made a knight in 2000.

a US science fiction writer who first became known for his novel The Martian Chronicles 1950. His best-known books include Fahrenheit 451 , The October Country (1955), Dandelion Wine (1957) and Something Wicked This Way Comes (1962). .
