Meaning of BRIDGER in English

(1804–81)

a mountain man in the American West who discovered the Great Salt Lake in 1824. He trapped animals and sold their furs, and worked for the army as a scout (= a person who goes first to watch for danger). He began the town of Fort Bridger in Wyoming . One of his friends said Bridger had ‘little fear of God and none of the devil’.
