(1965–78)
a British boy who was murdered in 1978. He was delivering newspapers to a farm in Staffordshire and was shot by thieves who were robbing the house. Four men were arrested and sent to prison because one of them, Patrick Molloy, admitted the murder to a policeman who has since been proved dishonest. Molloy died in prison. The others, who became known as the Bridgewater Three , protested that they were innocent. In late 1996 they were set free. This was one of several cases at around the same time that made the British public doubt the honesty of the police.
