a member of the junior branch of the Guides , for girls between the ages of 7 and 11. Many British girls join their local group of Brownies. Each group is led by a woman who is called Brown Owl, and there are regular group meetings at which the girls play games and learn to do useful things. In the US Brownies are called Brownie Girl Scouts and are between 6 and 8 years old.
