Meaning of CENOTAPH in English

a stone monument in the middle of Whitehall , London, built in memory of the members of the armed forces who died in the two World Wars . Every year, on Remembrance Sunday , the Queen and the leaders of the main political parties place wreaths (= arrangements of flowers) there as part of a special ceremony. The word cenotaph means ‘empty tomb’.
