I . Chippendale

a style of 18th–century furniture, based on the designs of Thomas Chippendale . His book of designs, The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director (1754), spread the English rococo (= highly decorated) style to furniture makers outside Britain. A lot of the furniture made in America between 1755 and 1790 became known as Chippendale:
a set of Chippendale chairs.
II . Thomas Chippendale
(1718–79)
an English designer of strong but elegant furniture, often with flowing lines and carved decoration. Chippendale’s work influenced many others, including George Hepplewhite and Thomas Sheraton . His son, also called Thomas, continued his business until 1813.
