I . Agatha Christie
(1890–1976)
one of the most successful English authors of detective stories . Her 67 books and 16 plays have been translated into many different languages. They include The Mysterious Affair at Styles (1920), The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (1926), Murder on the Orient Express (1934), Death on the Nile (1937) and A Murder is Announced (1950). She created the detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple . Agatha Christie’s play The Mousetrap has been running in the West End continuously since 1952. Christie also wrote under the name of Mary Westmacott. In 1971, she was made a dame (2).
II . Linford Christie
(1960– )
one of Britain’s finest athletes. He won the gold medal for the 100 metres race at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992, and was also world, Commonwealth and European champion at this distance.
