I . Bill Clinton

(1946– )

the 42nd US President 1992–2001. He is a Democrat and was previously the governor of Arkansas . The US economy improved under Clinton, and the North American Free Trade Agreement was signed. His successes in helping to achieve world peace included the Camp David Agreement for the Near East and the Dayton Agreement to end the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1998 President Clinton admitted that he had had a sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky, a junior member of the White House staff, after denying it earlier. He was impeached (= charged with acting illegally) for lying under oath and obstructing justice, but the United States Senate judged him not guilty.

II . George Clinton

(1940– )

a US singer who also produces records and helped to establish funk music in the 1970s. With his group, Funkadelic, he produced such successful albums as Funkadelic (1970) and One Nation Under a Groove (1978). At the same time he sang with the group Parliament, which together with Fundakelic and other individuals formed a family of musicians known as P-Funk.

III . Hillary Rodham Clinton

a Senator for New York State since 2000. Her husband is the former US president Bill Clinton , and she is the first First Lady to be elected to the United States Senate . As a Democrat Senator, she strongly supports policies that aim to improve the lives of families and children. When she was the First Lady she got involved in many political issues, especially health and education. She is also known for her support of women’s rights and human rights. Before going into politics she had a very successful career as a lawyer. In 1997, she wrote the best selling book It Takes a Village: and Other Lessons Children Teach Us and in 2003 she published her memoirs under the title Living History .
