I . Blake Edwards

(1922– )

an American who directs, writes and produces films. He became well known for the series of Pink Panther comedy films which he wrote and directed. He also directed Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) and Victor/Victoria (1982) in which his wife Julie Andrews appeared. He received a special Oscar in 2003 for his work.

II . Gareth Edwards

(1947– )

a Welsh Rugby player who was made captain of Wales before he was 21. He played 63 matches for Wales. He helped the teams of Cardiff , Wales and the British Lions to win many victories.

III . John Edwards

(1953– )

a US Senator from North Carolina who tried to become the Democratic Party ‘s candidate to run for President in 2003. He was not successful, but became the candidate for Vice-President with John Kerry in 2004.

IV . Jonathan Edwards

(1703–58)

a US clergyman whose powerful sermons (= religious talks) on the power of God helped to create a major religious movement, called the Great Awakening, in New England (1734–5). Edwards became President of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University ) in 1757.
