I . Chris Evans
(1966– )
an English radio and television presenter who first became well known when he introduced the morning television programme The Big Breakfast from 1992, and Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush on Channel Four . He is very popular with young people, though his behaviour and remarks sometimes shock people and he has lost several jobs because he failed to come to work.
II . Edith Evans
(1888–1976)
an English actor who appeared in a wide variety of plays and films and continued acting until she was over 80. Her most famous role was as Lady Bracknell in Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest . She was made a dame (2) in 1946.
III . Walker Evans
(1903–75)
a US photographer. His best-known photographs were of poor people in the southern states during the Great Depression . These were published in American Photographs (1938) and Let Us Now Praise Famous Men (1941).
