(1933– )

the US evangelist who established the Moral Majority 1979–1989 to try influence politicians to follow conservative policies on issues such as abortion and homosexuality. The group worked to elect Ronald Reagan as President. Falwell has a church and national television programme in Lynchburg, Virginia , and started the Liberty Baptist College (now the Liberty University) there in 1971. In 2002 he made many people angry by saying in a television interview that he thought Muhammad was a terrorist.
