Meaning of FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP in English

any of a number of US scholarships (= awards of money for study) given for exchanges between US and foreign universities and colleges. Those who receive them are called Fulbright scholars and include students and teachers. The programme was established by the Fulbright Act (1946) of Senator J William Fulbright (1905–95), and it first used money from the sale of old US military equipment. More than 250 000 scholarships had been awarded by 2004.
