the US singer who, with his group the Comets, first made rock and roll popular. They recorded Shake, Rattle and Roll and then Rock Around the Clock , which Haley wrote. It was used in the film The Blackboard Jungle (1955) and became an international hit, with 22.5 million copies sold.
