a children’s game in which one person chooses a word and the others try to guess what it is. They do this by choosing letters which they think may be in the word. Each time they choose wrongly, the first person can draw one part of a man hanging by his neck from a rope on a frame (the way that people used to be officially killed in the past). If the people guessing do not get all the letters of the word before the drawing is complete, they lose and are ‘hanged’.
