I . the Battle of Hastings
a famous battle (1066) in English history at which William the Conqueror defeated King Harold II and became King of England. It was fought near Hastings on the south coast of England.
II . Warren Hastings
(1732–1818)
an important figure in the East India Company who later became the first Governor General of India. When he returned to Britain in 1785, he was accused of corruption but was found not guilty after a trial lasting seven years.
