( Alan Patrick Herbert 1890–1971)
an English writer. He was best known for his articles in the magazine Punch , many of which made fun of the legal profession. He was made a knight in 1945.
II . George Herbert
(1593–1633)
an English poet and priest. He was one of the metaphysical poets and dealt with religious themes such as doubt, suffering and joy, using simple language. The collection The Temple was published in 1633 after his death.
III . James Herbert
(1943– )
an English writer of horror stories, which include The Rats (1974), The Fog (1975), Shrine (1983), The Ghosts of Sleath (1994) and Once (2001). Many of them have been made into films.
