I . Henry Hudson
( c. 1550– c. 1611)
an English explorer who, when he was looking for the North-west Passage in 1609–10, discovered what are now called the Hudson River and Hudson Bay , a very large sea in north-eastern Canada connected with the North Atlantic by the Hudson Strait . In 1611 some of his men turned against him there, and put him in a small boat with his 12-year old son. They were never seen again.
II . Rock Hudson
(1925–85)
a US actor who became famous playing tough characters but later made several comedies. His films included Magnificent Obsession (1954), Giant (1956) and Pillow Talk (1959). He also made a television series, McMillan and Wife (1971–8). Hudson was the first Hollywood star who said publicly that he had AIDS, from which he died.
