a strong motor vehicle used for driving over rough ground or on mountain roads. The Jeep was first made for the US Army in World War II . It was called a General Purpose vehicle, the short form of which was ‘GP’ or ‘jeep’. Jeeps are now made by Chrysler and sold around the world. Popular models include the Cherokee and the Wrangler.
