the most popular chocolate bar sold in Britain, often eaten as a snack (= quick meal). Each one consists of two or four strips of wafer (= layers of thin crisp biscuit) covered in chocolate. It first appeared in 1937 and for many years it was advertised with the slogan: ‘Have a break – have a KitKat.’
