a game similar to field hockey , originally played by Native Americans. It is played on a field with a goal at each end between two teams of 10 or 12 players each who use sticks with nets at the end (called crosses ) to catch, carry and throw a small rubber ball. In the US it is mainly played by men and is a popular sport in schools. In Britain women’s lacrosse is played in some schools.
