a US professional American football trainer, known for his tough methods. He was famous for saying, ‘Winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing.’ He trained the Green Bay Packers of Wisconsin from 1959 to 1967, during which time they won 141 games and lost only 39. His teams won the National Football League Championship five times (1961–2 and 1965–8) and the first two Super Bowls (1967–8). The Vince Lombardi Trophy, given to the team that wins the Super Bowl, is named in memory of him.
