a US writer whose novels and short stories were mostly about Jewish life in America. His novels include The Natural (1952), about a baseball player, which was later made into a film (1984) with Robert Redford . Malamud won a National Book Award for The Magic Barrel (1958), a collection of short stories, and a Pulitzer Prize for his novel The Fixer (1966).
