(1899–1982)
a New Zealand writer of detective stories who lived in Britain from 1928. Her books include A Man Lay Dead (1934) and Hand in Glove (1962), and her most famous character is Chief Detective Inspector Roderick Alleyn. She was made a dame (2) in 1948.
II . Pete Marsh
a humorous name for Lindow Man , the very old body of a man found in soft wet ground in Cheshire , England, in 1984. ‘Pete Marsh’ is an ordinary English name which also sounds like ‘peat marsh’ (= an area of soft wet earth formed from decayed plants).
