MASTERMIND

Meaning of MASTERMIND in English

a popular British television quiz programme that started in 1972. The four people competing each week take turns to sit in a black chair and answer questions on a subject of their own choice and then general knowledge questions. The person with the most correct answers goes on to the next round until the final winner becomes ‘Mastermind’ for the series. For many years the questions were asked by Magnus Magnusson . Two phrases often used on the programme have become widely used by British people in general. They are ‘Pass’, said when a person is unable to answer a question, and ‘I’ve started, so I’ll finish’, said if the time for questions ends while the last one is being asked.
