Meaning of MAYPOLE in English

a tall decorated pole which people dance around during traditional May Day celebrations in Britain. The dancers, usually children, hold coloured ribbons attached to the top of the pole, which is fixed upright into the ground. Maypoles used to be common in villages on May Day but are now less often seen.
