a young person, especially in Britain in the 1960s, of a group following a fashion of smart modern clothes. Mods had short, neat hair, rode scooters (= small motorcycles) and liked soul music . Their rivals were the rockers . Large groups of mods and rockers used to gather at seaside towns on bank holidays and fight each other.
