an English artist who was one of the first in Britain to produce abstract paintings (= ones that arrange shapes and colours in a satisfying way instead of showing things in a realistic way). His second wife was Barbara Hepworth .
II . Jack Nicholson
(1937– )
a US actor known for playing attractive but dangerous characters. He won Oscars for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest , Terms of Endearment (1983) and As Good as it Gets (1998). He first became internationally known in Easy Rider , and his other films include Five Easy Pieces (1970), Chinatown (1974), The Shining (1980), A Few Good Men (1993), About Schmidt (2002) and Something’s Gotta Give (2003).
