a US writer of novels and short stories which combine violence and comedy and are set in the South. Her novels were Wise Blood (1952) and The Violent Bear It Away (1960) and her collections of short stories include A Good Man Is Hard to Find (1955).
II . Sandra Day O’Connor
(1930– )
the first woman to serve on the US Supreme Court. She was appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1981.
