a member of a Native American people in the US state of Oklahoma . Many of them have become very rich since oil was discovered on their reservation (= land given and protected by the US government) at the beginning of the 20th century. The Osage had earlier lived in the Ohio River valley and then along the Osage River in Missouri . The US government moved them to the Oklahoma reservation in 1872.
